宝来R 的发动机经过了重新调校，动力得到极大提升，其发动机的噪声也随之增大。静止状态下，如果在车外倾听发动机的声音，有些类似宝来TDI的声音，当然进入驾驶舱内就不会那么明显了。宝来R的换挡行程变得短了一些，入位也非常有弹性，也许是为了适应赛车时的换挡需要，要尽可能缩短换挡时间。从宝来R起动的那一刻开始，推背感就一直伴随着我们。静止加速时如果只是缓缓地踩踏油门踏板，车速会缓缓上升，比较沉稳。但是一旦前方有机可乘，只需要稍稍深踩一点，发动机的转速迅速向着2 000 r/min挺进，推背感会油然而生。如果一下把油门踏板踩到底，伴随着发动机的一声低吼，车速猛然提升，推背感变得异常强烈。当发动机转速超过2 000 r/min以后达到2 500 r/min时，那种加速的感觉就开始使人热血沸腾，车速会在你还没有做好心理准备的情况下猛然提升。而且这种加速超车的推背感直到车速达到140 km/h时依然明显存在。由于路况的关系，记者只是把车速提升到了170 km/h，不过从加速的感觉来看，想要一举突破200 km/h，应该很容易实现。<br><br>脚踏板全部包裹金属饰件，宝来“R”的标志随处可见<br>

宝来R的高速性能非常出色，而且其安全性能也做得非常充分。制动踏板的感觉非常灵敏，轻点即可迅速减速，既没有过度灵敏而带来的“硬”感觉，也没有反映迟缓所带来的“软”感觉。所以，宝来R的100 km/h～0的制动距离控制在了40米左右，已经进入了国产车型中制动距离最短的车型行列。<br>
