China has announced that 12 more Uyghurs were killed in Xinjiang and that claim has been also confirmed by the other sources. Hence the number of Uyghurs killed in the Urumqi onslaught has reached 197. The local Uyghur sources have claimed that the number of Uyghurs killed by the Han and Chinese forces is in the hundreds. However, Chinese state television has disseminated a video which gives the impression that the incidents emanate from provocations. Meanwhile, protests against human rights’ violations in the region continue. A communiqué written by 97 civil society organizations in Turkey has been presented to Turkish Mission to the United Nations. Crimean Tatars in Ukraine and Uyghur in Belgium also protested China on Sunday. Moreover, around 5,000 Uyghurs, including women wearing white scarves as a sign of mourning, gathered in Kazakhstan to express their protest at China's crackdown in its northwestern Muslim region of Xinjiang. In Xinjiang's worst ethnic unrest in decades, Uyghurs staged protests in the regional capital Urumqi on July 5 after a clash at a factory in south China in June left two Uyghurs dead. The violence left 197 people dead and more than 1,600 wounded, according to Chinese government. About 1,000 people, mostly Uyghurs, have been detained in an ensuing government crackdown. http://www.trt-world.com/international/newsDetail.aspx?HaberKodu=49835a27-57a1-437c-84dc-94e3af6221f9 |
